In the context of a coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative to maintain personal hygiene and wash your hands thoroughly. The Ministry of Health notes that effective methods of protection against coronavirus are conscious self-isolation, compliance with the temperature regime in cooking and hand hygiene.
When you need to wash your hands with soap
Many microbes accumulate on the hands, which, after contact with the face, enter the body and can cause many diseases. Therefore, it is important to teach the child to wash their hands thoroughly.
When to wash hands with soap:
- before eating;
- after cleansing the nose, sneezing and coughing;
- after contact with animals;
- after cleaning the house;
- after the toilet;
- after a walk on the street.
How to wash your hands
Show by your own example how thoroughly and how long you need to wash your hands. You need to wash your hands in warm water so that the small handles are not too hot. Lather them for 20 seconds (no need to buy antibacterial soap, preferably baby). Be sure to teach the child to check whether there is dirt left under the nails because microbes like to settle there.

Show your baby by example: wash your hands regularly after coming from the street. After all, if adults do not wash their hands, then the baby will think that he, too, can not do this.
Buy a special step for the bathroom so that the baby can reach the sink. Be sure to wash his hands for longer than three seconds. Include a fun children's song that lasts a minute and invite the child to wash their hands with soap until it ends.
A child from 3 to 4 years old can be suggested to count out loud while he washes his hands. For example, he takes soap and lathers his hands, while counting from one to ten, puts soap and rubs his hands with foam, counts from one to ten again, and rinses the foam with water. Thus, you can teach your child to count and remove more bacteria on his hands.
Always take antibacterial wet wipes for a walk. By regularly cleaning your hands outside the home, you will accustom your child to hygiene much faster, and also protect him from viruses and bacteria.
If the baby is stubborn and does not want to wash his hands at all, try to tell him about the dangers of bacteria that have settled on his finger and under his nails. Say that if they get into his stomach, the child will feel bad and he will not be able to play.
Allow the child to show independence, often it helps to accustom to hygiene. Let the baby choose the soap in the store that he wants to wash his hands and a bright towel to his taste.
Young children can be taught to wash their hands in a playful way. For example, invite your child to wash his rubber ducklings. Lather the toy, let the child rub it and wash its hands at the same time.
Motivate your child with the game “Soak the germs”. Draw a felt-tip pen on the palm of the baby monster, let him try to soak it and wipe it. An exciting and fun game will be able to cheer up both the child and you.
Clean hands are one of the main guarantees of the health of the gastrointestinal tract and protection against infectious diseases. Statistics say that ordinary hand washing significantly reduces the likelihood of getting a gastrointestinal disease and 10 times reduces the risk of letting an infection into the body. That is why this procedure should take place in the life of even the smallest children, starting from the moment they begin to walk.
