The video game industry is strange and unpredictable. Often successful and beloved by gamers franchises do not get any sequels, and uninteresting and even almost unprofitable series acquire new parts every year.
We have compiled a list of video games, the continuation of which awaits a huge number of gamers, but the probability of their release is close to zero.
DEAD SPACE 4

A series of the space horror Dead Space started in 2008 and in 5 years has acquired three full-fledged parts. Unfortunately, due to the failed third part, the game was not continued. The creators of Dead Space 3 wanted to expand the audience of gamers and made the game more casual, and replaced the monotonous space horror action. In addition to the gameplay immersion, the cooperative passing mode was a great obstacle.
The series is likely to receive a restart in the future, but the fourth part, which continues the adventures of Isaac Clarke, fans can hardly wait.
PREY 2

This is not about the 2017 Prey action (we may get its continuation), but about the 2006 game of the same name. In a first-person shooter, the player-controlled a native “American” Tommy, who got on a spaceship and tried to save his beloved. The game sold well and was liked by gamers. Soon after its release, the Human Head Studios development studio announced the release of a sequel in which, according to them, players were waiting for unexpected plot twists.
Eight years after the release of the game, the studio announced the cancellation of the project. In 2017, a game called Prey was released, but it was completely unrelated to the events of either the original or the expected second part.
MAX PAYNE 4

The Max Payne series is unique in that all three parts of the game are almost flawless. Some fans scolded the third part for changing locations and the image of the protagonist, the oldest - the second, for approximately the same reasons. But in general, each part of the series received high marks from both critics and players.
That is why it is a shame that we are unlikely to wait for the continuation of Max Payne. The franchise is owned by Rockstar, and in recent years, the studio has focused on Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption (supporting the online component and developing new parts). Nothing indicates that the new Max Payne game will be released in the coming years.
ALAN WAKE 2

Many gamers still consider Alan Wake the best game of Remedy Entertainment, despite the fact that they made a lot of good games (Quantum Break, Control, etc.). Obviously, there was a demand for the continuation of Alan Wake. In 2012, a major addition to American Nightmare was released for the game, and the studio began to prepare a full-fledged sequel.
In a recent interview, the director of communications of the studio, Thomas Pooh, said that Alan Wake 2 was developed for several years, but never came out. The studio did not have enough “time, money and resources”.
STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC III

Studio BioWare (Mass Effect and Dragon Age trilogies) worked with the first part of the game and Obsidian (The Outer Worlds, Fallout: New Vegas) with the second. Both games were warmly received by both critics and gamers. But instead of continuing the series, fans got an MMORPG based on it. This turnaround greatly disappointed fans of single-player RPGs, but current owners of the EA franchise do not plan to continue the series.
SILENT HILLS

One of Konami’s most ambitious horror films was canceled in 2015. The demo version of the project even managed to be released on consoles. According to rumors, Silent Hills could interact with a player in the real world - send him emails and text messages.
Hileo Kojima, director Guillermo del Toro, and actor Norman Reedus worked on Silent Hills. At some point in the development, due to disagreements in the team, Kojima left Konami and founded his own studio. Left without a leading developer, Konami decided to freeze the game. Curiously, Reedus and del Toro seamlessly moved to Kojima's next Death Stranding project.
In recent months (five years after the cancellation of the project), various rumors have appeared about the resumption of work, about the return of Kojima and many veterans of the series to the franchise, but so far there are no official confirmations. It is expected that more information about this project will appear with the release of a new generation of consoles.
HALF-LIFE 3

Half-Life 3 is a huge disappointment for old-school gamers and an inexhaustible source of memes for a generation of players who are not even familiar with the series.
Valve never promised the third part but said that the second would have three episodes. Almost 13 years have passed since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two (the last game in the series at the moment). And instead of a full-fledged continuation, Valve studio announced the release of Half-Life: Alyx - a shooter for VR, which tells the story of the formation of resistance on Earth but is unlikely to tell something new about Gordon Freeman.
